UBI Teams Up with the Filipino Firefighters Foundation of Davao

Hot Summer! Once again it’s Fire prevention month, a critical time of the year that is taken seriously by our firefighters.  Summer always has the highest fire incidents so our dear firefighters believe in the need to educate the residents of Davao about fire prevention and proper response in case of fire incident.

The fire prevention role of a fire department mainly includes ensuring the safety of its people and their properties (homes, hotels, offices, factories, and so on) and to assure that in case of fire the inhabitants can safely evacuate the premises unharmed.

One of Ulticon’s supported NGO’s is the Filipino Chinese Firefighters Foundation of Davao.  It is a non-profit organization Founded as an Emergency Fire and Rescue Operations Base. With Ulticon’s donation that support the department’s operations in terms of equipment like fire jackets and maintenance amongst others, the FIlipino Chinese Firefighters have a better chance in helping more people in case of fire.

Ulticon, with Carlos Charlie S. Gonzalez of Davao believes it is a must to provide assistance through a simple donation to some of many significant organizations that help protect and render service to the community.  After all, the fact that our firefighters risk their lives for their fellowmen can never be compensated with any monetary value. Residents of Davao City can rest more comfortably at night knowing that the people who stay up in case of emergencies are also supported to be at their most conditioned state.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) with Ulticon Builders

The Philippine Commission on Women is a governing association that aids women and envisions itself as the “government authority that champions women’s empowerment and gender equality”. They seek to let the more opportunities for women to contribute to the city and to share their talents and abilities. One of its major functions is to “Undertake continuing advocacy to promote economic, social and political empowerment of women and provide technical assistance in the setting-up and strengthening of mechanisms on gender mainstreaming”.  Women nowadays are more than capable to contribute and strengthen society.

It is no longer surprising for us to hear people, organizations and companies help support the cause of others since it is a small price to pay for the lives that are touched and changed.  That is why Ulticon makes sure to always support the advocacy of other organizations.  This is most especially true if it is for the women and children who are in need of our great assistance. Thus, when PCW invited Ulticon Builders Inc. to be one of its donors, UBI has seen this as a wonderful chance of helping the women and children of Davao though PCW.

Its vision and mission which is to engage in projects that benefit the people in line with its  Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR reach greater heights every time it works hand in hand with organizations and agencies committed to nation-building like the The Philippine Commission on Women.

Ulticon Builders Helps Typhoon Pablo Victims in COMVAL

Compostela Valley (ComVal) is the 78th province in the country by virtue of Republic Act No. 8470, signed by the former President Fidel V. Ramos on January 30, 1998.  It is located in the Davao Region in Mindanao. Compostela Valley is divided into 2 districts and is composed of 11 towns. The municipality is originally dependent on mining and in Barangay Kingking alone, gold is estimated to be at 10.3 million ounces with copper deposits of 5.4 billion pounds.  However, aside from mining, some of the communities within the area thrive through agricultural means.

The descendants of Compostela Valley (COMVAL) came from different ethnic tribes such as the Mansaka tribe, Mandaya, Manobo, Mangguangan, Dibabawon, Aeta, Kamayo, Davaweño and Kalagan.  They mostly speak in Cebuano as it is the dominant language in Mindanao.

Unfortunately, on December 4, 2012 this beautiful place was left defenseless against Typhoon Bopha, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Pablo.  It was the strongest tropical cyclone to ever hit the Southern Philippine island of Mindanao as of 2012, making a landfall as a Category 5 super typhoon with winds of 175 mph (280 km/h).

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) the death toll reached up to 184 in Compostela Valley alone and the typhoon caused destruction in Mindanao, leaving thousands of families homeless and more than 600 fatalities. The Tropical Cyclone destroyed homes, electricity lines, bridges, roads, etc. Even the road in Andap-Cagan Road which was constructed by Ulticon Builders, Inc. did not escape the wrath of typhoon Pablo.

The damage in agriculture and infrastructure in Compostela Valley province reached at least 4 billion pesos, equivalent to €75 million or $98 million U.S., with the typhoon destroying 70-80% of plantations, which were mostly bananas grown for export.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sought help from Davao City contractors. Ulticon Builders Incorporated, headed by Carlos “Charlie” S. Gonzalez of Davao, heeded the call and donated in kind a substantial amount of relief goods and GI sheets for the survivors of bagyong Pablo in Compostela Valley.  This simple and kind donation by Ulticon touched the lives of our countrymen who were in need and certainly has gone a long way in helping them rebuild what was lost and destroyed by Typhoon Pablo.
