The Philippine Commission on Women is a governing association that aids women and envisions itself as the “government authority that champions women’s empowerment and gender equality”. They seek to let the more opportunities for women to contribute to the city and to share their talents and abilities. One of its major functions is to “Undertake continuing advocacy to promote economic, social and political empowerment of women and provide technical assistance in the setting-up and strengthening of mechanisms on gender mainstreaming”. Women nowadays are more than capable to contribute and strengthen society.
It is no longer surprising for us to hear people, organizations and companies help support the cause of others since it is a small price to pay for the lives that are touched and changed. That is why Ulticon makes sure to always support the advocacy of other organizations. This is most especially true if it is for the women and children who are in need of our great assistance. Thus, when PCW invited Ulticon Builders Inc. to be one of its donors, UBI has seen this as a wonderful chance of helping the women and children of Davao though PCW.
Its vision and mission which is to engage in projects that benefit the people in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR reach greater heights every time it works hand in hand with organizations and agencies committed to nation-building like the The Philippine Commission on Women.
Ulticon Builders Inc., headed by Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez, has always had the passion for nation building. It is not everyday that we are able to rejoice and celebrate with one another so UBI saw a great opportunity in partnering with The DUAW Dabaw Festival Foundation for the 76th Araw ng Dabaw. This foundation headed by the former executive director of Duaw, Lisette Marquez, is a non-profit organization which promotes tourism in the city. It is also a proud private partner of the City Government of Davao for the (2013) 76th Araw ng Dabaw celebration.
Ulticon thought it best to participate in the festivities by donating cash to the Duaw Dabaw Festival Foundation and help it with the implementation of the events. Thus, with the help of both the public and private sectors, the various events of Araw ng Dabaw which included the opening program, Mutya ng Dabaw, Araw ng Dabaw Talent Competitions (Sayaw Pinoy, Saywan sa Da’n, Laban Labandz), and Hudyakaan sa Araw ng Dabaw were held successfully.
The official events handled by the City Government of Davao were also a success.. These are the 76th Araw ng Dabaw Appreciation Program, 76th Araw ng Dabaw Athletes Recognition Program, Araw ng Dabaw Sportsfest, Davao City Hall Employees Association Sportsfest, Parada Dabawenyo and Datu Bago Awards respectively.
Davao City prides itself as one of the major cities the Philippines can be proud of and showcase to the whole world. Ulticon, believes that for it to retain its glory as a world-class city, all sectors must and can contribute in whichever way possible. In helping Duaw Dabaw Festival Foundation, Ulticon has proven its dedication in being a supportive member of the Davao City community.
Ulticon Builders, Inc. (UBI) reached yet another milestone as one of the country’s most reliable contractor companies. For two consecutive years, UBI was recognized by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as Top Corporate Taxpayer in CARAGA Region.
The first plaque was awarded on the August 8, 2013 to UBI in the occasion of the 109th anniversary (BIR) celebration at Luciana Convention Center, Butuan City. The said plaque was signed by the Regional Director of BIR CARAGA. In the succeeding year, another Plaque of Appreciation was awarded to UBI, again, for being the Top Corporate Taxpayer in the region. The second plaque was awarded on August 12, 2014, Inc. by the BIR and was signed by Bargos S. Saransamun (Revenue District Officer), Rodrigo D. Simporios (Chief, Division Collection), and Norberto D. Vitug (Regional Director).
The Bureau of Internal Revenue is an agency of the government which is responsible in collecting more than one-half of the total revenues of the government. Therefore, it is every individual and corporation’s responsibility to timely pay its proper amount of taxes, being one of the ways to help the government in its continuous efforts in nation building.
Furthermore, UBI, under the leadership of its President and CEO, Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez, considers proper filing of returns and payment of taxes as means of adhering to its corporate social responsibility (CSR). Receiving the plaques of recognition and being listed as Top Corporate Taxpayer were humbling experiences but the true reward exists in knowing that the taxes paid by UBI will be utilized to improve the lives of Filipinos through provision and improvement of government facilities, services and infrastructure.
Compostela Valley (ComVal) is the 78th province in the country by virtue of Republic Act No. 8470, signed by the former President Fidel V. Ramos on January 30, 1998. It is located in the Davao Region in Mindanao. Compostela Valley is divided into 2 districts and is composed of 11 towns. The municipality is originally dependent on mining and in Barangay Kingking alone, gold is estimated to be at 10.3 million ounces with copper deposits of 5.4 billion pounds. However, aside from mining, some of the communities within the area thrive through agricultural means.
The descendants of Compostela Valley (COMVAL) came from different ethnic tribes such as the Mansaka tribe, Mandaya, Manobo, Mangguangan, Dibabawon, Aeta, Kamayo, Davaweño and Kalagan. They mostly speak in Cebuano as it is the dominant language in Mindanao.
Unfortunately, on December 4, 2012 this beautiful place was left defenseless against Typhoon Bopha, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Pablo. It was the strongest tropical cyclone to ever hit the Southern Philippine island of Mindanao as of 2012, making a landfall as a Category 5 super typhoon with winds of 175 mph (280 km/h).
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) the death toll reached up to 184 in Compostela Valley alone and the typhoon caused destruction in Mindanao, leaving thousands of families homeless and more than 600 fatalities. The Tropical Cyclone destroyed homes, electricity lines, bridges, roads, etc. Even the road in Andap-Cagan Road which was constructed by Ulticon Builders, Inc. did not escape the wrath of typhoon Pablo.
The damage in agriculture and infrastructure in Compostela Valley province reached at least 4 billion pesos, equivalent to €75 million or $98 million U.S., with the typhoon destroying 70-80% of plantations, which were mostly bananas grown for export.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sought help from Davao City contractors. Ulticon Builders Incorporated, headed by Carlos “Charlie” S. Gonzalez of Davao, heeded the call and donated in kind a substantial amount of relief goods and GI sheets for the survivors of bagyong Pablo in Compostela Valley. This simple and kind donation by Ulticon touched the lives of our countrymen who were in need and certainly has gone a long way in helping them rebuild what was lost and destroyed by Typhoon Pablo.

On December 04, 2012, a category 5 storm made landfall in Davao Oriental. Known in the Philippines as Bagyong Pablo, the most powerful tropical cyclone to ever strike the Southern Philippine island of Mindanao in that year had winds of 280 km/h (175 mph). Many of the towns in Davao Oriental were located in coastal areas, and were badly affected. Patrick Ronolo, a college student, was one of the survivors who experienced the wrath of the typhoon. “Scary- kusog kaayo ang hangin. (The wind was so strong).”, Ronolo shared.
The persistent torrential rains which lasted for days and strong winds that came with it caused landslides, destroyed homes and claimed lives. It was a very traumatizing event for everyone and no amount of words can describe what the people of Davao Oriental went through. As news of the devastation flooded the media, our kababayan from different provinces and regions of the country decided to help the victims.
Ulticon Builders Inc., joined the efforts in helping our distressed fellowmen. Ulticon humbly donated two trucks of relief goods and hundreds of rolls of vinyl banners (trapal). These were then used for the houses that were left without roofs by Pablo’s strong winds. In addition, Ulticon also deployed trucks to Davao Oriental for a whole month to aid in the distribution of relief goods.
Ulticon’s donation of relief goods and materials to victims of typhoon Pablo is only one of the ways by which it has shown its commitment to live by its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Aside from alleviating the lives of people in different rural communities through its Farm-to-Market Roads or FMR’s, Ulticon makes it a point to stand by our fellow Filipinos in desperate times when a helping hand is what they need the most.
With over two decades of dedicated service and passion in the construction industry, Ulticon Builders Incorporated, headed by Carlos Gonzalez of Davao City, has made its way in being one of the most reliable contractor companies in the country. Ulticon Builders has been a trusted contractor for government projects with its practice of conscientious preparation and skillful implementation.
Ulticon has played a great role in assuring that places in the country will be made more accessible. Hand in hand with the government, it has helped in construction, repair and rehabilitation of roads, highways and bridge projects.
One of Ulticon’s more significant projects is the Cateel-Compostela diversion road construction in Davao Oriental. The 37-kilometer road project was completed by building two semi-permanent bailey bridges. This innovative solution has remarkably shortened the travel time from Davao City to Cateel, Davao Oriental by three hours.
Ulticon Builders has also created farm to market roads which have improved the lives of the filipinos in those areas. Ulticon’s first farm to market project was the Rehabilitation of Sangay – Simbalan Road in Agusan del Norte. Since then, Ulticon has been one of the top contractor companies to have built new farm to market roads and repaired or upgraded existing ones.
Currently, Ulticon is in the process of repairing and rehabilitating the circumferential road in Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS). The construction of Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia-Bukidnon road is also ongoing in the provinces of Davao Del Norte and Valencia City, Bukidnon. The completion of these projects will add to the numbers of high quality infrastructures Ulticon has successfully built. These projects will undoubtedly help improve Filipinos’ lives in these areas where accessibility will, in the very near future, become a long gone predicament.
Ulticon Builders Incorporated (UBI) is a company established primarily for the purpose of engaging in the general construction business which involves among others, developing, constructing, repairing, rehabilitation and other work activities on roads and highways, piers and bridges, irrigation projects and building construction. Ulticon was founded in 1993 by its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Carlos “Charlie” S. Gonzalez and his brother, Engr. Raul “Sonny” S. Gonzalez in Davao City. It is classified as a Triple A or “AAA” company by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB). This means that it has the capacity to undertake a broader and more complex range of construction projects. It also takes pride of its highly trained, qualified and practised engineers, professionals and staff from different fields of and expertise in engineering.
Being classified as a Triple A or “AAA” company is both an honor and a challenge. Qualifying as such necessitated having the financial capacity, modern and state of the art technologies and equipment, existence as a construction company for a substantial number of years and the required individual experience of the company’s technical personnel. The company prides itself with a staff of highly trained, qualified and experienced engineers and professionals from various fields of discipline in the engineering, planning and supervision of different construction activities utilizing updated technologies.
UBI managed to comply with these meticulous standards although it recognizes that the task does not end there. There is the persistent challenge for it to exceed whatever it has achieved as a reliable contractor company and maintain the quality and professionalism expected from it as a Triple A company.
In the business world, companies work hard and compete with each other with the primary end in mind of earning profits. However, this should not discount the fact that a company does not exist in a vacuum, away and void of any connection to the other sectors of society.
Ulticon Builders Incorporated, or UBI is aware of the responsibility that rests upon it as a construction company and that it has a role to fulfill when it comes to the socio-civic enhancement of the community to which it belongs. Thus, Ulticon decided to address the need of Tuburan Institute with its donation of an access road that will make it easier for students and their families, volunteers and teachers to reach the green community school.
Tuburan Institute, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit, community-based school that offers holistic education to students coming from diverse socio-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Inspired by the international Steiner/Waldorf movement and in partnership with other sectors of the community, Tuburan Institute has been honing its students to become well rounded individuals for three years now. Its innovative and interactive method of teaching focuses not only on the intellectual growth of its students. It also seeks to rouse the students’ curiosity and creativity through activities that do not merely revolve around books and papers.
UBI knows the importance of investing in good quality education especially in rural communities and inspired by the effort dedicated by Tuburan Institute in bringing high-quality education closer to Davaoenos, UBI took the opportunity to help Tuburan Institute through the creation of a road measuring 6 meters wide and 430 meters. Today, members of the community enjoy a cleaner and easier path to the green community school. This way, UBI has shown the world that a simple act of kindness, of clearing a once impassable trail, can add to the notable beginnings of Tuburan Institute as a “wellspring” for its students’ brighter future.
