Ulticon Builders: A Legacy of Excellence and a Vision for the Future

The Humble Beginnings

Ulticon Builders Inc. was founded in 1992 by brothers Carlos “Charlie” S. Gonzalez and the late Engr. Raul “Sonny” S. Gonzalez with the vision of driving socio-economic growth in Mindanao. Starting as a modest construction firm, Ulticon focused on delivering infrastructure projects that improved connectivity in underserved areas, transforming remote communities and boosting economic opportunities.

By 1997, Ulticon had already completed hundreds of kilometers of roads and bridges, solidifying its reputation as a reliable and high-quality contractor. These early successes laid the groundwork for the company’s rise as one of the most trusted names in the Philippine construction industry.

Expansion and Growth

Under the leadership of Carlos S. Gonzalez, Ulticon steadily expanded its presence across Regions X, XI, and XII, taking on increasingly ambitious projects that demonstrated its expertise in delivering high-quality infrastructure. Over the years, the company has successfully completed more than 500 projects, including roads, bridges, flood control systems, and highways.

In 2016, Manuel “Manny” S. Gonzalez joined the company as Executive Vice President, bringing a fresh perspective and new energy to Ulticon’s leadership team. His addition marked a significant turning point for the company, as his strategic insights and leadership helped drive further growth and innovation. With his focus on operational efficiency and business development, Manuel played a vital role in expanding Ulticon’s reach and reinforcing its position as a leader in the construction industry.

This period of growth also saw the company earning its Quadruple A (AAAA) accreditation from the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB). This prestigious designation—the highest level in the industry—signifies Ulticon’s unparalleled capacity to manage large-scale, high-value projects while maintaining exceptional standards of quality and efficiency.

Landmark Achievements

Ulticon’s portfolio of completed projects includes some of the most transformative infrastructure developments in the country. One of its most notable achievements is the Cateel-Compostela Diversion Road, a 37-kilometer stretch that was once deemed nearly impossible to build. Ulticon overcame these challenges, delivering a vital connection that reduced travel time by hours and opened economic opportunities for isolated communities.

Other significant projects include the Tagum Flyover, the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road, and the Buda-Quezon Road, each of which demonstrates Ulticon’s expertise in handling complex, large-scale construction initiatives. These projects highlight the company’s ability to deliver infrastructure that not only meets the needs of today but also lays the groundwork for future growth.

People as the Foundation of Success

At the heart of Ulticon’s achievements are its people. The company’s workforce of over 3,000 skilled professionals is central to its success, and Ulticon is dedicated to providing its employees with the tools, training, and opportunities they need to excel.

The safety and well-being of its employees remain a top priority for Ulticon. The company has implemented stringent safety measures and protocols across all job sites, ensuring that its workers can perform their duties in a secure and supportive environment. This focus on people-centric growth creates a culture of trust, collaboration, and innovation, enabling the company to achieve even greater milestones.

Looking Ahead

As Ulticon Builders Inc. moves forward, the company continues to embrace its role as a nation-builder, delivering infrastructure that uplifts communities and drives economic development. Ulticon is currently involved in ambitious projects such as the Davao City Bypass Project, which includes the country’s first twin tunnels. This groundbreaking initiative demonstrates Ulticon’s ability to adopt innovative construction methods and collaborate with global partners to deliver projects that meet international standards.

In addition, Ulticon is engaged in urban development projects designed to create sustainable, eco-friendly communities, showcasing its commitment to building for the future.

A Commitment to Sustainability

As the global focus on sustainability grows, Ulticon remains committed to minimizing its environmental impact while delivering infrastructure that benefits current and future generations. Through its renewed certifications, such as ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety, the company demonstrates its dedication to responsible construction practices.

Ulticon integrates resource efficiency and waste reduction into its operations, ensuring that its projects align with sustainable development goals. The company views sustainability as a shared responsibility and a core component of its mission to deliver high-quality infrastructure.

A Legacy of Nation-Building

From its humble beginnings to its recognition as a Quadruple A general contractor, Ulticon Builders Inc. has always been driven by its mission to improve Filipino lives through transformative infrastructure.

As Ulticon looks to the future, it remains committed to building infrastructure that connects communities, fosters economic growth, and improves lives. With every project completed, Ulticon reaffirms its role in shaping the future of the Philippines—one road, one bridge, and one community at a time.

A Glimpse of Ulticon Builders Davao Company Culture

We ask people from the admin team of Ulticon Builders, “Describe Ulticon in one word.” And most of them answered “Family.” It brings joy and happiness to the leaders of Ulticon that they’ve instilled the feeling of belongingness to their employees.  It has always been the dream of the founders to not only build bridges to communities but to build bridges to people as well. This culture has been achieved through understanding each other in the company, no matter who you are. A quality company culture is one of the hardest workplace qualities to obtain, because the investment is time.

Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez, Vice-President of Ulticon Builders, understands the importance of having a company culture.

Your company culture defines the way in which your organization interacts with one another and how the team interacts with the outside world, specifically your partners and suppliers.

It’s the formula that guides the team, as well as inspires and motivates employees. It is also responsible for attracting and retaining great talent, as well as creating a fun, happy and exciting work environment.

A great company culture also attracts a great partner which, in turn, creates great success! People will want to do business with you because of what you believe in and stand for, rather than solely on your products alone. Understanding this principle will quickly allow you to see the importance of company culture.
